Alternative Investment Analyst

The West Virginia Investment Management Board is accepting resumes for an Alternative Investment Analyst. This is a full-time position that offers a great work/life balance. Partial remote work is offered following a training period. Starting salary ranges from $60k to $75k depending on experience. Special consideration will be given to applicants with three to five years of operational due diligence experience.

The WVIMB is a professional financial management organization charged with managing pension and other long-term funds primarily for the State of West Virginia.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Alternative Investment Analyst to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the operational due diligence and portfolio accounting processes for our multi-billion-dollar alternatives portfolio. This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with senior leaders and key team members from some of the largest, most successful hedge fund, private equity, and private real estate managers in the country.

Functions and basic duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct thorough operational due diligence on potential and existing investment managers, evaluating the overall quality of fund systems and infrastructure to identify risks with an emphasis on internal practices, governance structure, employees, cash management, reporting processes and controls, valuation practices, business continuity, compliance, third party service providers, etc.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date portfolio accounting records, ensuring alignment with governmental accounting standards.
  • Monitor cash balances and ensure capital calls are funded timely.
  • Calculate performance and reconcile to the results presented by the funds and consultants.
  • Assist with year-end valuation analysis to support values reported in the WVIMB’s audited financial statements.

Qualified applicants will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required, CPA or CAIA license preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of progressive accounting experience in a complex industry or public accounting is required.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to assess complex investment structures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with senior leadership from top-tier investment firms.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously while maintaining high-quality work.

Investment Accountant

The West Virginia Investment Management Board is accepting resumes for an Investment Accountant. This is a full time position that offers a great work/life balance. Partial remote work is offered following a training period. Starting salary ranges from $52k to $75k, depending on experience.

The WVIMB is a professional financial management organization charged with managing pension and other long-term funds, primarily for the State of West Virginia.

This position is responsible for various facets of portfolio and participant accounting.

Functions and basic duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepares journal entries and monthly portfolio account closes
  • Performs account reconciliations
  • Analyzes and verifies information using advanced spreadsheets
  • Prepares monthly financial statements
  • Calculates portfolio performance returns
  • Assists in reporting of portfolio and benchmark returns
  • Prepares reports for participants, investment officers, auditors, and management
  • Researches and documents complex accounting issues

Qualified applicants will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, CPA license preferred
  • A minimum of two years of progressive accounting experience in a complex industry or public accounting is required
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills required, especially in Excel
  • Must be able to work independently, exercise sound judgment in problem resolution, possess strong analytical skills, and complete work timely and accurately

Investment Officer

The West Virginia Investment Management Board is seeking candidates for the position of Investment Officer. This is an intermediate level position reporting to the Chief Investment Officer in the oversight of private and public market investment activities. Specific responsibilities and salary will be commensurate with experience, skills, and needs of the organization. Salary range: $110,000 – $152,000. Attractive benefits package offered.
